Problem

The homepage said only "October 2027": no exact dates, no way to hear about the next one, and nothing from the 2026 weekend beyond the photos.

Solution

Everything fits on one screen, with no scrolling:

  • Center: NEXUS with a pulsing glow. Below it, a one-line ticker cycles through Alt Tango Weekend, Next one: October 8–10, 2027, and the tagline. Under that is a "Get email updates" pill linking to the Google Form.
  • Left: a quote box whose five quotes take turns fading in. It's styled like a speech box, with quote marks breaking the border at two corners.
  • Right: a thank-you credit roll (DJs, Live Music, Teachers). Hovering pauses both the quotes and the credits.
  • Phones: the lede, quote, and thank-you roll stack in one column and still fit a 375×667 screen.
  • Performance: the NEXUS glow pulses by changing opacity on a layer behind the word. Animating text-shadow directly repainted every frame over the moving photo wall.
  • Removed: the "Tango Nexus" and "Alt Tango" corner labels, since the lede now says both.

Quotes and thank-yous move out from below the fold into the hero,
flanking the lede: quotes take turns in one box, the credits roll in a
window. The three lines under NEXUS become a one-line ticker. Phones
stack lede, quote, and thanks and still fit a 375x667 screen.

Names from the registration sheet's Staff and Volunteer rows, minus the
DJs and teachers already credited. The roll slows to 80s to match the
longer list.

The quote box border drops to a thin, translucent line everywhere. On
phones the quotes leave the box and crawl right to left in one line
along the bottom, under the thank-you card.

"Next one: October 8–10, 2027" leaves the ticker for the top spot, over
Portland, Oregon, so it's always on screen; the ticker now alternates
between Alt Tango Weekend and the tagline. Quote marks go from white
to rose.

The date over the city goes white, a touch heavier, with a magenta
glow. It also returns to the ticker under NEXUS, so the ticker cycles
all three lines again.

Desktop: each quote box fits its text and fades in at a random spot
clear of every other word on the hero, trying wider boxes when a tall
one finds no gap. Slower, smoother fades; names in rose. Phones keep
the one-line crawl.

The thank-you roll stops on hover, touch, wheel, or focus and scrolls
by hand from where it was, then rolls on from there once the reader
leaves.

Desktop quotes now fill in one after the next, each clear of the rest,
then all fade out together. Each round is planned up front (best of 30
random layouts) and boxes scale with the viewport so all five fit.
Quote marks go dusty rose.

The thank-you roll resumes after 3s of no interaction, even if still
hovered or focused. The date and city get the thank-you card's dark
panel. Quotes wait 10s before arriving; the thank-you roll waits 3s.
